Building Rome….AROO AROO AROO

Published May 28, 2014 by Tritrigirl

I can get away with that, because I’m a SPARTAN.  Anyway…

I was reading and thinking (deadly combination at times) and came across this post, which then referenced THIS post and I thought, what the hell.  I’ll join in the fun.

So Green Embers proposed this:

How to participate!

  1. Make a post with your goals for the week and how well you did with the previous weeks goals!
  2. Link back to this page!  (Yes, I linked twice so what?)
  3. Visit other people who have linked or commented and cheer them on!

If you don’t have any ideas for a goal for this week, make a goal with the weekly theme in mind.

Take one of your previous goals and push yourself a little harder than you normally would!

Goal Advice:

  • Keep it simple and direct. Example: I will walk for 30 minutes 3 days this week.
  • If you didn’t accomplish your goal from the previous week, keep the same goal but find ways to make it more achievable but still pushing yourself. For example, if you your goal was to read 400 pages but you only read 200 pages, then make the next goal 300 pages.
  • Make your weekly goals directed to a larger overall goal.
  • Dream big!
  • Remember there is no one right way to accomplish a task, part of the fun is finding a way that works for you!
  • Never compare your progress to others

So this week’s goals – I know we’re a little late in the week so we may mix up a bit so this can go out on Monday and I don’t spend half a day getting posts out because this work deadline thing is totally cutting into my blogging time.

THIS WEEK is about PUSHING OUTSELVES (all about training):

1. Attend 2 Tough Cookie Trainings

2. Complete 1 Swimming workout

3. Do PT exercises 6 out of 7 days

4. Avoid drinking during the week (Monday – Thursday).

5. Mail my sister in law’s late birthday present (that counts right?).

We’ll start simple and work up from there.  Happy Wednesday!

“To the love, I left my conscience pressed between the pages of the bible in the drawer, what did it ever do for me, I say? It never calls me when I’m down, love never wanted me.  But I took it anyway.  Put your ear to the speaker and choose love or sympathy but never both.  Love never wanted me…”  – Xo – FOB

Monday, er Tuesday music Mix and Week 21 Share Your World

Published May 27, 2014 by Tritrigirl

It’s Tuesday / Monday and as much as I adore the three day weekends it really messes with me.  Especially when some of my kooky co-workers are uh, like, uh, working?  On the holiday.  I have roughly 15 minutes until my next conference call that will make me cry so I’ll get through this super speed!

Steve’s Monday Music Mix:

In case you were recuperating from too much celebration this weekend here are the rules:

Each week I will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers

Title your post “Steve’s Music Mix – …” and link back to this week’s page.

Post your response in the comment section of that week’s page.”

We re-shuffle the Magic Media Player annnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddd:

I’m full of…?   Black Balloon – Goo Goo Dolls

Comments: “Baby’s black balloon makes her fly.  Almost fell into that hole in your life. You’re not thinking about tomorrow.  Cause you were the same as me but on your knees.  A thousand other boys could never reach you, how could I have been the one.  Saw the world spin beneath you, and scattered like ice from the spoon.  Coming down the world turned over and angels fall without you there and I go on as you get colder or are you someone’s prayer.”  I love this song, it’s sad, and complicated.  Sounds a lot like me.  Maudlin, lost, shut off.  So, yeah, right now…I’m a little full of that.  Self preservation and all.

I’m lacking…? Saturday – Fall Out Boy

Comments – “I’m good to go for something golden.  All the motions I’ve been going through have failed…I read about the afterlife, but I never really lived.”  Oh boy, Steve…never really lived and waiting for your life to get going.  Sometimes I definitely feel like I’m just going through the motions and not really living my life the way I want to, waiting until something…until I lose more weight, until I can do x, y, z.  I know we only get one shot, but it doesn’t seem real sometimes.

I’m okay for…? Round Here – Counting Crows

Comments – Well, hell…talk about a few deep, sad, introspective songs.  Geesh.  I’m okay for…”Round here, we always stand up straight, round here, something radiates…”  *Sigh*

Now for Cee’s Week 21 of Share Your World!

If you could make a 15 second speech to the entire world, what would you say?

Eesh, not a great fan of public speaking, but I guess it would be something along the lines of although we’re all of different backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures, there’s no reason why we can’t find common ground and accept each other.

If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?

I’m not very good at photography.  But I love to paint.  I would love to paint the night sky out in the country where you can see little lights from homes and a sky full of stars.

If you had to spend one weekend alone in a single store but could remove nothing, which store would you pick?

A single store…it would have to be a big book store.  Probably Barnes and Noble because they also have writing implements…and are usually attached to a Game Stop so I could play video games if I wanted to.  And have coffee.  🙂  Albeit not the best, but sometimes mediocre is better than nothing.

If you were given a boat or yacht today, what would you name it?  (You an always sell the yacht later)

Tempesta – Italian for storm.  Purty name.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week – Brick work out with Tough Cookies Tri Ladies, pool party and BBQ with friends (made some amazing venison burgers and a chocolate chip cookie pie).

This week – MY MOM IS COMING! 🙂  And she’s offered to dig up my flower beds and make them bend to her will.  She’s all master gardener and shit.  Plus we’re going to Jimmy Buffett Saturday.  Should be a fun time!

Last days of disco…

Published May 26, 2014 by Tritrigirl

25 songs 25 days

Just kidding…about the disco thing anyway.  But we do need to finish up this challenge.  So!  Here goes nothing!

Day 24 – A song that you have danced to with your best friend – To be clear I have a couple best friends.  One I grew up with and one I acquired as an adult.  With Megan, my childhood friend, I’d have to say it was something along the lines of Rhythm is a Dancer at one of our middle school  dances.  (SO MUCH FUN)

With Stephanie (yeah we have the same name – we’re also known by our last names or Thing 1 and Thing 2) it would have to be My Goodies by Ciara.  It’s been a loooooooooong time since we’ve been out dancing and I honestly think that may have been the last time her and I were out at a club.  Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily.

Day 25 – A song you could listen to all day without getting tired of it.

Well, a song like this is probably a song I’ve already posted so we’ll go with one of my favorite 80s songs – Dancing with Myself – Billy Idol.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some dancing to go do.

Happy Monday and Happy Memorial day!  Thank you to all that have served and those that have supported our soldiers.  Thank you for your sacrifice and just know that if we ever meet and I don’t thank you personally for your service it’s not because I’m not appreciative.  It’s because thank you is never enough and I cry every time I try to say it.  Bless you all!

BAM!  Thanks TwinDaddy!  Maybe we should do movies next?

Wake me…

“Its the perfect time of year, somewhere far away from here.  I feel fine enough I guess…considering eveythings a mess. Its like a dream you try to remember but its gone.  Then you try to scream but it only comes out like a yawn.  When you try to see the world beyond your front door.  On an evening such as this, ita hard to tell if I exist. I could leave but I’ll just stay…all my stuffs here anyway.”

Need to hunt this CD down from my collection.

Day 22 and 23 of Music

Published May 23, 2014 by Tritrigirl

25 songs 25 days

For some reason my computer hates it when I try to have too many tabs open in Google Chrome, which conveniently has an “incognito” window so while my IT department could totally track everything I do all day, I’m sure they don’t really care as long as I’m not looking at porn and really anyone looking at porn on their work laptop deserves to get caught.  But at least the Incognito windows won’t save the browsing history or the cookies. I’ve had blue screens once a day all week.  I’ve backed up all my documents but am trying to see what I can do to prevent it before I have to tell IT that it went down while I was playing Candy Crush.  So I’ve got my netbook up instead.  Because I’ll go batty if I can’t try Candy Crush or Bubble Witch Saga at least once a day to decompress from all the deadlines and general panic that’s going on with my project right now.

Day 22 – A song that someone has sung to you.  My mom always sang “You are my sunshine,” but my dad used to sing weird stuff to me as a baby…for instance apparently I frequently fell asleep to:

Give a cheer, give a cheer to the women who drink beer in the basement of Barney’s saloon…

I can’t remember the rest but I used to know it by heart.  My dad and his weird Army songs.

Day 23 – A song that you cannot stand to listen to.

Okay, I’m probably going to get some shit for this but I really can’t stand Lorde’s Royals.  I like her most recent one but it all sounds like Millennial generation whining and hipster apathy and as a late Generation X-er, I just don’t get it.  Well, I do but it makes me weep for society.  There’s also a song that has something in it about Breeze blows and I can’t stand that one either.

I’ve got a long post in store for y’all but for now my work email is blowing up again and I have to, like, work and shit.  🙂

Day 21 Of music – Show us your Fave!

25 songs 25 days

Day 21 – You Favorite Song.

Dude…does ANYONE has 1  favorite song?  I sure as hell don’t.

So as Twindaddy said I’ll pick my favorite current song.

And that would be “Tiffany Blews” by Fall Out Boy.  You really can’t go wrong with a song that starts with Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh or that has some serious clapping.

For your listening pleasure!

Day 20 of music (We’re really almost done??)

25 songs 25 days

Okay Day 20- The last song in your iPod / iTunes.  I DO NOT HAVE iTUNES.  So, I have a media player…and the last song alphabetically is….

You’ve Got the Love – Florence and the Machine from the Album Lungs.

Still sore as hell, but going to Body Pump tonight.  Hope all is well!

-Just One Yesterday – Fall Out Boy

That song came on during the last half of my ride on Saturday and felt enormously fitting for me, well, really just that part of the song.

Saturday was the 30 mile Real Ale Ride.  I almost overslept, thankfully the hotel was full of other riders and I woke up, got my stuff together and headed to the brewery.  I always feel a little self conscious at these things.  Especially since I was on my own.  But I did manage to make friends.  I walked up 4 hills (including the one made of pure concentrated evil as one rider assessed) I drank some pickle juice because my calves were cramping.  (Seriously, for you riders, runner, triathletes, if you have not discovered pickle juice and you’re prone to cramping I recommend checking it out.)  So I’m at mile 28.49 according to my GPS (which I’m sure was lying) and right down the street from the brewery when this guy rides up and says, “Hey, it sounds like you’re riding with a flat.”  AH HELL.  I could hear something but didn’t know what it was.  So I unclip, hop off and sure enough.  Fucking flat.  Well, shit.  The car is LITERALLY across the street from where I was, so, I walked the bike over, strapped it back onto the car, put on my flip flops and went to find my new friends.  Had a couple lovely brews, had a great BBQ sandwich and then it was time to load up and continue on my journey of torture through the Texas Hill Country.

I drove from Blanco, TX to Marble Falls, TX found my hotel and unloaded, showered and attempted to nap for a couple hours before hunger and a serious headache made me stop watching Big Bang Theory, get dressed and head to Double Horn Brewing for dinner (where I started to encounter SPARTANS).  Great anniversary Saison, great grilled chicken sammich.  I was almost falling asleep over my plate at the end.  Back to the hotel and tried to get to sleep early because I knew Sunday was gonna be rough.  And of course, I couldn’t sleep.  I was so nervous.  Waking every couple of hours and even having a nightmare of being tortured as part of the obstacles.

I woke up bright and early.  Had some breakfast (small bagel, a little cream cheese and a banana) and got all my water bottles together because I don’t take dehydration lightly.  I don’t know how hot it’ll get or how much water I’ll have access to but I intend to always stay hydrated.  I pack the bike back up onto the car, load up the CD player (old school yo) with FOB and Coheed and Cambria and we’re off to the Spartan Race!

After off roading in my Mazda 3 for 50 miles (okay 2, maybe 2) I finally get parked.  Get everything together and head to the shuttle pick up so I can find Angela before she heads out with the Elite heat.  She’s re-registered to go at 10 with me and her brother but I want to see her off for the Elite Heat.  I get my wave time changed (PS – they will move you later but not earlier) and head to the start to find her.  I get in a quick hug and a good luck before she takes off.  Now, it’s early, and I am literally looking around at all the “fit” people there going…uh…so…where are all the “regular” people.  You know, not the ones who drink protein shakes constantly and measure out the Glycemic Index of their foods and the ones that don’t know the calorie to mass ratio of a banana.  Those of us who don’t live at the gym or do crossfit like it’s crack (Crossfit is a lot of fun, but it’s weird how it’s almost like a cult).  They finally start showing up as the morning progresses (thank goodness!).

Angela finishes…she got lost apparently they hadn’t marked the trail very well at one point and she went straight instead of turning left (she showed us later where) and in the end went an extra 1.5 miles out of the way.  YOWZER.  So we’re getting ready to line up when finally Scott shows up.  He was a little easier to find than I expected but with NO cell service it was impossible to coordinate anything.  We got lucky.  Anyway, you have to climb over a short wall to get to the freakin’ shoot before you can start.  Ah hell.  I’m short, I’m big and I’ve got shit for upper body strength.  This is gonna suck.  They give an awesome motivational speech that ends with you screaming I AM SPARTAN!  AROO! AROO!  AROO! (Even the kids race does…PRECIOUS).  We take off.

The course itself wasn’t too bad, it was a trail, with some definite rocky climbs.  I won’t go through all the obstacles, because honestly, I can’t remember all of them.  I do remember a few particular ones.  The big one being an inverted wall.  About a 6 ft wall, inverted towards you.  I had 3 people helping me to get up (Including Scott and Angela) but once they had me up to the post where I’m supposed to “just throw my leg over” I can’t move.  I’m freakin’ out and I can’t pull myself up.  Two guys who made it over the wall came to my rescue and started helping me pull myself up and over.  And then I was down and off of it.  I almost burst into tears.  I looked at that thing as we walked up and thought, NO WAY IN HELL.  But I love Angela, because she looks at it and says, okay, here’s what you’re going to do.  And we do it.  I couldn’t have made it through yesterday without her, without Scott (who was a big help to everyone while he ran the course with us) and without the other Spartans.  By the third and second to last obstacles, I just didn’t have anything left in me to climb.  I tried the inverted rope climb 3 times before falling and saying to myself, I’ll take the burpees.  (If you can’t do an obstacle you get to do 30 burpees…it’s in your best interest to do the damn obstacle)  All told I 95 of 105 burpees…15 for an easier version, 30 for missing the spear throw, 30 for the inverted rope climb and 30 for the rope climb.  Out of 21 obstacles I wasn’t physically able to complete 2 and I missed the spear throw, that’s a skill thing, not a physical thing.

As Angela said about half way through: “I’ve never worked so hard for a banana.”  And it was the best fucking banana I ever had!  Anyone can do a Spartan Race.  Don’t think you can’t.  Everyone helps each other.  I wouldn’t have made it through without help.  Everyone is AWESOME.

my mud

Yes, that’s me in mud covered purple.  You can’t see my red hair, because…mud.

Today I am sore as hell and the bruises look like I’ve been manhandled by security at a Poison concert.  I can almost barely walk, but it was worth every minute, every scrape, every bruise, every bump.  SO.TOTALLY.WORTH.IT.

Share Your World Week 20

Published May 19, 2014 by Tritrigirl

Brought to us by Cee’s Photography:

If you could go back and visit any time period, what time would you travel to and why?

Oh well…I’ve got a few in mind, but honestly I’d be curious to get back to the Renaissance period.  So much art and literature was created then, so many new ideas and thoughts being embraced.  It would be fascinating to be around it.

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?  This is a time for you to dream and have fun.

Wish #1 – A second home in the Pac NW.  So I can have my own place when visiting family.  I could figure out a way to live here part time and there part time.  Totally sounds awesome, right?  But for that I’d need:

Wish #2 – All debts paid….let’s just say all house payments, student loans and all credit cards.  Anything I incur after is my own doing but let’s start from scratch again.  And besides, 2 houses and NO mortgage or rent?  AWESOME.

Wish #3 – A unicorn.  Yes.  A freakin’ unicorn.

Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink?

Depends on what’s going on.  Working out?  Probably Nuun, Powerade or EFS.  Working in the yard?  Probably just water or sparkling water.  I’m not a big juice person so I usually stick to water or an electrolyte drink.  Once in awhile I’ll have an actual soda, but that’s not very often.

If you watch TV what are your favorite three television shows?

Big Bang Theory

Doctor Who

Sherlock / Elementary (Yes, it’s two different shows but I love them both)

These are shows that are currently on…some have been cancelled as of this season.  Boo.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week – First chiropractor visits.  Hoping to get my ankle back on track.  Finished the 30 mile Real Ale Ride on Saturday and did the Spartan Sprint on Sunday.  Made it through almost all but 3 obstacles with help, but I did it!

This week – Oreo’s final follow up for his knee is tomorrow so hopefully we’ll see where he’s at and hopefully he’ll be cleared to go back to normal spastic puppy activities.  This weekend is Memorial Day weekend, so lots of fun planned, BBQs, hanging out.  Should be a good time!

Monday Funday? Yeah, sure if you can walk!

Published May 19, 2014 by Tritrigirl

Holy crap on toast (yes, eeiiooowww is right) I’m ridonkulously sore.  I’ll rehash the weekend’s fun and torture and festivities a bit later but first there are some Days of Music to catch up on!

25 songs 25 days

Day 17 – A Song That Makes You Want To Dance…It would have to be Happy by Pharrell.  I can’t sit still when I hear that song.  One of my yoga instructors would play it and we’re supposed to be laying there stretching this or that out and I’m using every ounce of self control to be still.

Day 18 – A Song that You love but Rarely Listen to: Goodnight to a Mother’s Dream by Nancy Griffith.  This song inevitably, no matter how happy I am, makes me tear up and cry and not in a feel good after kinda way.  So I don’t listen to it often.  “I am a vision of my mother’s dream come true, built this house out in the hills, all by my own will, I’ve got love enough for two but it’s just me and this old moon….Got a bank full of mother’s dreams, maybe mother just didn’t see, that love would be the only dream her daughter would ever need.”

Day 19 – The first song alphabetically in you iPod/iTunes.  Well I don’t HAVE iPod or iTunes (well I do but it just has what’s on my computer so alphabetically on my Media Player we have: 3AM Matchbox Twenty.

And now Steve’s Monday Music Mix!

Here’a rehash of the rules for any of you so sore from your Spartan Race (AROO) that you had to literally ROLL out of bed.

“Each week I will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers

Title your post “Steve’s Music Mix – …” and link back to this week’s page.

Post your response in the comment section of that week’s page.”

I always remember…?   Wild World – Cat Stevens

Comments: Ah…college….Well, the first 6 months anyway.  I will always remember hanging out with Shane who was in my Shakespeare class.  He loved this song.  It would inevitably play while we’d be hanging out in his dorm.  He was a good guy.  I often wonder about those kids I met that first semester.  I left after Christmas break because I was miserable.  I kept in touch with one guy who’s family lived in Austin after I moved here and we’ve stayed in touch off and on since.  Those were fun time.

I always forget…? I Don’t Care – Fall Out Boy

Comments: Oh magic media player….I always forget…”I don’t care what you think as long as it’s about me the best of us can find happiness in misery.  Said, I don’t care what you think as long as it’s about me.  The best of us can find happiness in misery.”  I LOVE THIS SONG.  But yes, I always forget…that I don’t care what you think.  In fact, I have to REMIND myself that I don’t care.  Think my ass is too fat for spandex?  I just ran a 4.5 mile Spartan race the day AFTER riding a 30 mile bike ride!  What did you do?

I wish I could forget…? Girl with One Eye – Florence and the Machine

Comments: Oh dear….this song is fun.  But uh…”Hey, there girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie, I said hey, girl with one eye, I’ll cut your little heart out.  ‘Cause you made me cry.”

Happy Monday!

I’ll catch up with you shortly!
