Houston…we have a problem.

Published July 31, 2015 by Tritrigirl

For today’s question…Holy shit!  I just realized I skipped 4 questions!  So we have to make them up!

#17.  What is your most treasured memory?

I’m not sure if this is truly a treasured memory but it’s one that’s called to mind every fall when the weather here actually turns chilly (or Texas’s version of chilly).  I grew up in Boise, Idaho so the fall was real fall.  Leaves turning, chilly weather, getting dark early, etc.  So when that time of year comes around here I always remember coming home late after Basketball practice and seeing all the lights on in the house and the kitchen windows a little foggy because my stepmom was cooking up something in the crock pot and dinner was almost ready.  Which means in the fall I cook all sorts of stuff in the crock pot.

At the same time though this memory makes me feel a little guilty because I don’t have that type of memory about my mom.  For a couple reasons – 1) You parked behind my mom’s house not in front because it was an older neighborhood with alleys behind the houses (Not one of the newer trendy ones that have started doing this).  2) She was a working mom and single for most of it.  My stepmom was a stay at home mom after my baby brother was born.

Both women helped shaped me to be the woman I am today so I wouldn’t trade any of it.

In exciting news we watched Pixels last night, which I don’t care what other people think, it was fun and entertaining…I also would like to have a Q*bert trophy.  My driver side window finally rolled down after applying some spray silicone to the weather stripping (stuck due to the heat) and in less than 3 days I’ll be Couer d’Alene meeting my new nephew!

I actually went to the pool yesterday and sort of did a work out.  I swam about 800 meters and my should started to bug me.  I needed to swim 300 meters more, but said fuck it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and see you next week!

Come Fall In Love With Me!

Published July 7, 2015 by Tritrigirl

So, I love the Big Bang Theory.  Anyone who watches as religiously as I do is familiar with the episode in which they discuss the test involving 36 questions that are meant to bring a deeper intimacy to a relationship and help people fall in love.

In one of my more brilliant moments, I’ve decided to do this as a blog challenge.  Now, I’m not one to do the fancy pictures and whatnot because I am just not that cool.  So if someone decides to come play along and is that cool may I please borrow your coolness?

Anyway here are the questions:

  1. Given the choice of anyone in the world who would you want to have as a dinner guest?
  2. Would you like to be famous? In what way?
  3. Before making a telephone call do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?
  4. What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?
  5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
  6. If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or the body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?
  7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?
  8. Name three things the two of you have in common.
  9. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
  10. If you could change anything about the way you were raised what would it be?
  11. Take four minutes and tell your life story in as much detail as possible.
  12. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability what would it be?
  13. If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know?
  14. Is there something you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?
  15. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
  16. What do you value most in a friendship?
  17. What is your most treasured memory?
  18. What is your most terrible memory?
  19. If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why?
  20. What does friendship mean to you?
  21. What roles do love and affection play in your life?
  22. Alternate sharing something you consider a positive characteristic of the person you’re with. Share a total of five items each.
  23. How close and warm was your family? Do you feel your childhood was happier than most other people’s?
  24. How do you feel about your relationship with your mother?
  25. Make 3 true “we” statements for each. For instance, “We are both in this room feeling …”
  26. Complete this sentence, “I wish I had someone with whom I could share ….”
  27. If you were going to become a close friend of the person you’re with, share what would be important for her or him to know.
  28. Tell the person you’re with what you like about them; being very honest and saying things that you might not say to someone you just met.
  29. Share an embarrassing moment in your life.
  30. When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself?
  31. Tell the person you’re with something you already like about them.
  32. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?
  33. If you die this evening without the opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told them yet?
  34. Your house containing everything you own catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets you have time to make one final dash to save one item. What would it be? Why?
  35. Of all the people in your family, whose death would you find most disturbing? Why?
  36. Share a personal problem and ask for advice on how the person you’re with would handle it. Also, ask the person you’re with to reflect back to you how you seem to be feeling about the problem you have chosen.

As you can see some of these are going to be a little odd to be writing instead of speaking, but I’m going to do my best.

And without further adieu, here’s #1:

Given the choice of anyone in the world who would you want to have as a dinner guest?

If I could have dinner with anyone in the world it would be Drew Barrymore.  Here’s why – this amazing chick has grown up in the public eye, had all her personal crap and bad choices laid out for everyone to see.  She worked her way back and showed us those growing pains as well (Amy Fisher Story and Poison Ivy anyone?).  Not that her body of work has always been insanely amazing, but I loved her in Riding in Cars with Boys and Blended is one of my new favorites.  She’s come a long way in her life and her career and I’m sure she’d be a kick ass dinner date!

Building Rome – While Distracted – Week 3

Published June 12, 2014 by Tritrigirl

So it’s time for a little accountability…sigh…

Okay, for those who’d like to get more information and play along check out the skinny here.

Last week’s goals:

1. Swimming – 2 pool work outs

2. Continue to do PT 6 out of 7 days

3. Continue to avoid drinking Monday – Thursday.  This will be difficult as tomorrow is the anniversary of Walt’s death.  As craft beers will be consumed I will trade out Saturday for Wednesday and I have a race Sunday anyway.

4. Started the Spartan 30 sit ups in 30 days today.  Resolve to do at least 6 out of 7 days while making up for any missed days as well.

5.  Mail the freakin’ package as it now contains my brother’s birthday gift as well.

So how did we pan out?

1. Fail…my second swim day did not happen.  Will persevere.  Last week was a Charlie Foxtrot of a week (or Cluster Fuck if you’d rather).

2. Done…mostly…but I stay on it and have noticed quite a few benefits.

3. I did do well here….drank Wednesday, Friday and Sunday as I was planning.  Go me!

4. Am caught up and going strong.  I will have abs of steel one day!

5.  DONE!  Finally!  Confirmed package arrived safely with nothing broken!

So 4 out of 5 – not too shabby.

While we’re a little behind let’s go with this week:

1. 1 pool workout.  I have a race Sunday, it’s now Thursday.  Today’s plan is to swim this afternoon.

2. Continue with Spartan 30 sit ups for 30 days

3. Send out Father’s Day gifts to dad and brother!

4. Swim the Pville Tri 500m in no more than 20 minutes (assuming no white caps on the lake)

5. Continue PT exercises 6 out of 7 days per week.

Last weekend’s race really helped me to dial in on what I need to work on training-wise.  The main things are the swim and run…the bike needs work too but not quite as much.  Last weekend I did 3 minutes better than the previous race on that course.  I would have done even better but I dropped my chain halfway up a monster hill and ended up walking it.  No momentum, steep grade, no way in hell was I going to try to ride it.  But I still ended up taking time off the course and am now 15 minutes off my best time for that course.  15 minutes…I can do this.  I did a mile time last night and in the 96 F heat with a ton of humidity I did it in 13:47.  Faster than I normally go, which means when it’s not so hot I’m actually a little faster.  I told my coach I’d like to be down to an 11 minute mile and she said that if I stuck with it we could get me there by next spring.  I feel very hopeful!!

I have another race on Sunday and I know that it’s going to be tougher, it’s a little longer than what I’ve been doing but I can push through it.  When I finished the race last Sunday I knew I could have pushed more, I fully intend to this weekend.  Last year’s time on that course was 2:03:26 and my best time was 1:54:36.  I’d like to finish in 2 hours and if I can get my swim done faster then I may be able to do that.  It’s just 3 1/2 minutes.  I may be able to take that off my run time, we shall see.  I have less pain when I run than I did last year.  If I can get a good warm up in before the swim and get my breathing under control I should be able to nail it.  Fingers crossed and wish me luck!

Yeah, we’re a little behind, but we’ll catch up

Published June 11, 2014 by Tritrigirl

It’s been a whirlwind last week, y’all.  I have had some major stress, some major tears, some majors victories and have been so all over the place I’ve been second guessing my psychiatrist’s decision to change my meds.  But then I got through my race Sunday and thought, “Holy shit, I needed that.  That’s what was going on.”  Apparently too few work outs over the week make Stephanie turn into Super-Psycho-Stephanie.  OY.  She needs to stay away.

Any who.

Let’s play catch up!

Steve’s Monday Wednesday music mix:

Here’s the skinny –

Each week I will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

And here we go:

I am…?  Feathers – Coheed and Cambria

Comments: I’ve been waiting for these guys to show up.  So…I am…uh….”Right now, hide your feathers on the back porch, baby.
He’s coming home for… you’ve… been… such… a liar.  Hide your feathers, little back porch lady.   You’re too old enough to cry your sorry eyes out over the world.” I think this song is in reference to the character of Claudio being in love with on of the Prise (angelic like creatures in the story) and I guess their meeting again after a long separation, although I think THE one was killed in an earlier album.  There’s a crazy backstory to this band’s music, you should check it out.  Anyway, love this song.

I feel…? I’ve Got All This Ringing in My Ears and None on My Fingers – FOB

Comments: “And I’m so sorry, but not really….tell the boys where to find my body….The truth hurts worse than anything I could bring myself to do, to you.  The truth hurts worse than anything I could bring myself to do, to you.”  Steve…creepy as all get out.  Sounds a bit like my Friday night.

I sometimes think that you…?  Love Ridden – Fiona Apple

Comments: “No, not baby anymore.  If I need you, I’ll just use your simple name.  Only kisses on the cheek from now on and in a little while, we won’t have to wait.  My hands won’t hold you down no more, the path is clear to follow through.  I’ve stood too long in the way of the door and I’m giving up on….you.”  Steve….owch.  Yeah.

On to a more lighter note (is that a phrase?)!

Cee’s Week 23 Share Your World (see how I mixed that up? No? Okay, damn)

Would your rather be stuck in a small plane with mild turbulence for 2 hours or be a passenger in a car racing the Daytona 500?

God I hate turbulence, but I hate being in a car and not the driver and going super speed.  So it’s a toss up.

Would you rather be alone with nobody in the vicinity for one month or never be alone not even for a minute for one month?

Alone.  I’d kill someone who was around every minute of every day for a month…notice I don’t have children…

Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

Tree.  Underground freaks me out.  You’ll never find this chickie cave diving and I won’t rescue your ass when the creature comes out to kill you.  You are on your own…

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Depends on where we’re going.  I don’t mind sometimes because I get to control the music and everything else (no, I’m not a control freak at all), but driving for long periods of time sucks, so I’d rather trade off.  Short trips, don’t care, but don’t get pissed at me for giving you directions…and then don’t get pissed because I quit giving you directions because you got pissed that I was giving them in the first place.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week – IS OVER.  Had a great race Sunday.  Took 3 minutes off my last course time and am 15 minutes off my best course time.  Doesn’t seem so out of reach.

This week – Race Sunday, fancy dinner with Scott and that tater boys, and, that’s pretty much it for now.

I’ll catch you up on Rome shortly.  Have a great Wednesday!

Building Rome – Week # 2

Published June 3, 2014 by Tritrigirl

For me it’s Week #2.  It’s week 23 over there.

Let’s take stock of last week’s goals:

1. Attend 2 Tough Cookie Trainings

2. Complete 1 Swimming workout

3. Do PT exercises 6 out of 7 days

4. Avoid drinking during the week (Monday – Thursday).

5. Mail my sister in law’s late birthday present.

Okay, so let’s wrap up last week:

1. Done Wednesday “track practice” and Saturday’s mini-tri.

2. Only the mini-tri. 15 minutes, open water, approximately 450m.  Ideally would be 500m.  This requires work.

3. Done!

4. Monday I had 1 beer and Thursday I had 2 margaritas with my mom.  This will require work as well.

5.  Package is boxed and in the car to be sent.

So, let’s move right along to this week’s goals:

1. Swimming – 2 pool work outs (should be easy, I already have 1 down!)

2. Continue to do PT 6 out of 7 days (this will be a standing goal I think)

Am caught up by doing 90 (owch) this morning.  Resolve to do at least 6 out of 7 days while making up for any missed days as well.

5.  Mail the freakin’ package as it now contains my brother’s birthday gift as well.

Meant for this to go out yesterday but work’s hectic and I had to take my mom to the airport.  Had a great visit.  Will recap later and hopefully share pictures of the flower garden she created in the front yard.

Oh, and Jimmy Buffett was AWESOME.

Have a great day!!

Building Rome….AROO AROO AROO

Published May 28, 2014 by Tritrigirl

I can get away with that, because I’m a SPARTAN.  Anyway…

I was reading and thinking (deadly combination at times) and came across this post, which then referenced THIS post and I thought, what the hell.  I’ll join in the fun.

So Green Embers proposed this:

How to participate!

  1. Make a post with your goals for the week and how well you did with the previous weeks goals!
  2. Link back to this page!  (Yes, I linked twice so what?)
  3. Visit other people who have linked or commented and cheer them on!

If you don’t have any ideas for a goal for this week, make a goal with the weekly theme in mind.

Take one of your previous goals and push yourself a little harder than you normally would!

Goal Advice:

  • Keep it simple and direct. Example: I will walk for 30 minutes 3 days this week.
  • If you didn’t accomplish your goal from the previous week, keep the same goal but find ways to make it more achievable but still pushing yourself. For example, if you your goal was to read 400 pages but you only read 200 pages, then make the next goal 300 pages.
  • Make your weekly goals directed to a larger overall goal.
  • Dream big!
  • Remember there is no one right way to accomplish a task, part of the fun is finding a way that works for you!
  • Never compare your progress to others

So this week’s goals – I know we’re a little late in the week so we may mix up a bit so this can go out on Monday and I don’t spend half a day getting posts out because this work deadline thing is totally cutting into my blogging time.

THIS WEEK is about PUSHING OUTSELVES (all about training):

1. Attend 2 Tough Cookie Trainings

2. Complete 1 Swimming workout

3. Do PT exercises 6 out of 7 days

4. Avoid drinking during the week (Monday – Thursday).

5. Mail my sister in law’s late birthday present (that counts right?).

We’ll start simple and work up from there.  Happy Wednesday!

“To the love, I left my conscience pressed between the pages of the bible in the drawer, what did it ever do for me, I say? It never calls me when I’m down, love never wanted me.  But I took it anyway.  Put your ear to the speaker and choose love or sympathy but never both.  Love never wanted me…”  – Xo – FOB

Monday, er Tuesday music Mix and Week 21 Share Your World

Published May 27, 2014 by Tritrigirl

It’s Tuesday / Monday and as much as I adore the three day weekends it really messes with me.  Especially when some of my kooky co-workers are uh, like, uh, working?  On the holiday.  I have roughly 15 minutes until my next conference call that will make me cry so I’ll get through this super speed!

Steve’s Monday Music Mix:

In case you were recuperating from too much celebration this weekend here are the rules:

Each week I will post 3 new questions so…

(1) Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle
(2) Say the questions aloud and press play
(3) Use the song title as your answers
(4) NO CHEATING

Title your post “Steve’s Music Mix – …” and link back to this week’s page.

Post your response in the comment section of that week’s page.”

We re-shuffle the Magic Media Player annnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddd:

I’m full of…?   Black Balloon – Goo Goo Dolls

Comments: “Baby’s black balloon makes her fly.  Almost fell into that hole in your life. You’re not thinking about tomorrow.  Cause you were the same as me but on your knees.  A thousand other boys could never reach you, how could I have been the one.  Saw the world spin beneath you, and scattered like ice from the spoon.  Coming down the world turned over and angels fall without you there and I go on as you get colder or are you someone’s prayer.”  I love this song, it’s sad, and complicated.  Sounds a lot like me.  Maudlin, lost, shut off.  So, yeah, right now…I’m a little full of that.  Self preservation and all.

I’m lacking…? Saturday – Fall Out Boy

Comments – “I’m good to go for something golden.  All the motions I’ve been going through have failed…I read about the afterlife, but I never really lived.”  Oh boy, Steve…never really lived and waiting for your life to get going.  Sometimes I definitely feel like I’m just going through the motions and not really living my life the way I want to, waiting until something…until I lose more weight, until I can do x, y, z.  I know we only get one shot, but it doesn’t seem real sometimes.

I’m okay for…? Round Here – Counting Crows

Comments – Well, hell…talk about a few deep, sad, introspective songs.  Geesh.  I’m okay for…”Round here, we always stand up straight, round here, something radiates…”  *Sigh*

Now for Cee’s Week 21 of Share Your World!

If you could make a 15 second speech to the entire world, what would you say?

Eesh, not a great fan of public speaking, but I guess it would be something along the lines of although we’re all of different backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures, there’s no reason why we can’t find common ground and accept each other.

If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?

I’m not very good at photography.  But I love to paint.  I would love to paint the night sky out in the country where you can see little lights from homes and a sky full of stars.

If you had to spend one weekend alone in a single store but could remove nothing, which store would you pick?

A single store…it would have to be a big book store.  Probably Barnes and Noble because they also have writing implements…and are usually attached to a Game Stop so I could play video games if I wanted to.  And have coffee.  🙂  Albeit not the best, but sometimes mediocre is better than nothing.

If you were given a boat or yacht today, what would you name it?  (You an always sell the yacht later)

Tempesta – Italian for storm.  Purty name.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week – Brick work out with Tough Cookies Tri Ladies, pool party and BBQ with friends (made some amazing venison burgers and a chocolate chip cookie pie).

This week – MY MOM IS COMING! 🙂  And she’s offered to dig up my flower beds and make them bend to her will.  She’s all master gardener and shit.  Plus we’re going to Jimmy Buffett Saturday.  Should be a fun time!
